TO DETERMINE THE DURATION OF THE WAR
CERTAIN INFLUENCES AT WORK Paris, May 7. ■M. Ribot, Finance Minister, "stated that France's expenses on account of the war during April were between fiftysix and sixty millions sterling. France was giving Britain five hundred million francs in gold, for wheh England was opening a credit for three times as much for goods bought for the Empire. In order to prevent any outrageous rise in prices of war goods, a single delegate would do all the buying in foreign countries on behalf of the British, Russian, and French War Offices. He asked for a vote of credit for three months only, though the period was six months last time. He was able to state that certain things were in preparation which would, have considerable bearing on the .duration of' the war, ''but whatever the duration we were sworn to bring it to a logical end, and, with the Help of our Allies, we will go the whole way."'
