OPERATIC SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. At the animal general meeting of- the Wellington Amateur Operatic Society last Mr. T. M. Wilford presided) and there were about thirty members present. _ The animal report and the balance-sheet wore adopted. Tlie report showed that the society had had a very successful season, and was in a sound financial condition.
In moving the adoption of the report the chairman congratulated members on the satisfactory state of the finances. He scrutinised the figures, and was of opinion that, in stating the assets, the society had erred too much on the side of caution. In the production of the two operas the society had reached a very high standard artistically. Referring to the members who had answered the country's call to arms, the chairman said that the report in a way deplored tho faot that (the society's ranks had been thinned through members going to the front, but bo was sure that all were loyal enough to appreciate tho good work being done for the Empire by those members. At a later stage of the meeting he was going to propose that the secretary place on record for all time the names of members serving with the forces. Ho suggested that during the coming season the society might put on the best opera possible and devote the profits to one or other of tho deserving funds connected with the war. In conclusion the chairman paid a tribute to the valuable services rendered to the society by Mr. Tom Pollard, under whose guidance tho two 'operas produced had attained such a high level, and had in conscquence received such generous public patronage.
