ALLEGED THEFT OF BANK PROPERTY

GRAVE MATTERS AT STAKE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, May 7. In the Police Court Edward George Nurse, aged thirty-one, was charged with stealing diamond and othor rings, valued at £500, the property of tile National Bank of New Zealand. On an application for a remand and for bail, the Crown Prosecutor said that there was a great deal more at stake than the charge might indicate. The matter involved several thousand pounds. If defendant was prepared to help the Crown in its investigations, he would not object, otherwise he would ask that bail be prohibitive. The Magistrate, after looking over figures submitted, said that what the Crown Prosecutor had stated was correct. He fixed bail at two sureties of £500 each, accused to report himself twice every day.
