CHURCH MEETING

ST. MATHIAS, MAKARA",

meeting of parishioners of St. Mahias s (Anglican) Church, Makaxa, was held on Wednesday evening. •j vicar (the Rev. Mr. Woodward) presided. When the usual business of reading Teports and balance-sheets and making appointments of officers had been completed, the desirability of having the trees growing on the church property cut down was considered. It

was suggested that nothing be done until the new church was Tbuilt, as, in addition to their pioturasqueness, it was tho opinion of experts that the removal of the trees would be a great danger to the safety of the present cliurch building (now some fifty years old) during tho windy season. However, it was ultimately decided that the matter be left in the hands of tlie ICarori vestry to deal with. The Building Committee reported some £300 was how in hand for the erection of a new church. The vicar suggested that as tho material. required was so convenient to the spot, that the church should be built in concrete, as the building would be more lasting, and proposed that a special effort be made to ra.ise the balance necessary to start tho Work.
