TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED

LOCAL DIRECTORS' REPORT. (By Telegraph. —Pruss Association.) _ , , Auckland, May G. . Oil behalf of the directors of tho Talisman Consolidated Gold Mining Company, Ltd., Dr. Piendergast Jinight and Mr. R. H. Jackson paid an official J 'Sit to tho mine at Karaiigaliake on Wednesday. They are reporting to tho Ac 0 " k°ard ol' directors as follows: —- Since our last visit early in .March, the following progress and developments have taken place:—ln No. lj Level soon alter our last visit the north drh*e passed through a lault, and ;>ood values c.'.me Jn. V alucs have extended for some 70ft., and are still showing in tho face, the average width being from 4ft. Cin. to sft-. In this section No. (j winze lroin the 14th. level has now reached tho No. 15 lovel, proving that highgrade values extend right down. No. 8 winze has also been connected with No. 6 rise from the No. 10 lovel. This 'is where wo passed through some 50ft. of good ore previously at the randon of the level, and good payable values wero carried right up. A leading stope is now being driven from No. 8 rise northward. No. 2 winze, which is in the extreme north end of the Bonanza section on No. 14 level is down about 60ft. in good payable ore for the whole distance sunk. At this depth a drive has been started to go through the fault which is known to exist going north, to see if values exist there on the other side of the fault on the higher levels. Values existed northward of the fault, but at the 14th level they ceased at the Woodstock fault. It will be most interesting to see'if at this lower depth the values come in again. . "These developments have taken place 6ince the oro reserves were estimated, but until further exploration work has been carried out it is impossible to estimate tho tonnage of the ore, which has been found. It is satisfactory to find values down the whole distance between Nos. 14 and 15 levels in these winzes, and to that extent modify the conclusions mentioned in. our last report. No. 19 winze has been sunk a few feet so far, and is carrying erratic values. This work will be continued as the supply of labour permits. At tho south end of No. 15 level since cur last visit 110 payable values have been met with, but .in the present face and for the last 25ft. the country has become much more open, with conditions similar to those overhead, where values were found, so we hope that values will appear soon. The sinking of the Talisman shaft at this point has teen resumed, and it is now down about 10ft. below tho random of the loth level. A further distance of 30ft. will require to be driven to provide a pump aud ohamber for the pumping plant. "So far, since our last visit, the main drive south is now placed below the No. 14 level north from the Talisman, and a rise of some 70ft. on the angle, with about 16ft. further to connect these points. Once holed through, this will provide a much easier mode for all concerned to get to their working places. This drive will, of course, be continued until the Talisman shaft is connected, and tb«n the main drainago of the mine will flow along this IcTel. _ There is about 380 ft, still to be driven-

regard to the main drive north the west crosscut is out 200 feet without intersecting anything of value, which, of course, is not expected at this point, but a vein formation of about 5 feet has been passed through and about 25 feet ha« been driven on showing conditions to exist similar to what was found on the surface above. Ilriving has been stopped at this {joint, as the ground is loose and timbering is required. The east of No. I crosscut is now out about 350 feet. At 140 feet vein formation 4 feet wide was intersected, but the crosscut is being extended so as to cut the Maria vein, which is expected at about 100 feet from the present termination of the crosscut. This, when found, will gi.i'6 the management a choice as to which vein should be explored, so as to determine the value of Taukani Hill. Some 700 feet further has to be driven north so as to be below the positions where values were found on tne surface, and some distance below by the old companies. In the Woodstock section (No. 2 crosscut) preparations are now being made to develop at paints where payable ore has been found. A hopper is being constructed on the side of the Waita, wheta Stream to receive this ore, and the.foundations of an aerial tramway are being laid to carry the ore from the hopper to the mill. The general conditions of development points at this visit of inspection are, we are glad to report, distinctly more favourable and encouraging than those existing at our last visit."
