Italy's position and intentions remain shrouded in mystery, but conflicting East European rumours assert her.readiness to intervene in favour of the Allies, and allege that the conversations with Austria have definitely ceased. . . . A German deputation is reported to bo interviewing the Pope. This is regarded as the final effort to ensure neutrality. The Italian Ambassador in London declares that there is no news from Rome which leads him to believe that intervention is imminent. GREAT GARIBALDI CELEBRATION AT GENOA. (Reo. May 7, 1.10 a.m.) Rome, May 6. The Mayor of Genoa unveiled the Garibaldi monument before an immense gathering. Signor Gabrielle D'Annunzio (the famous author) was the chief orator, and delivered a fiery address.
