The annual social of the Pahiatua branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union will be held to-morrow (Friday) evening. The Wairarapa Pipe Band will attend this gathering, and in conjunction with the Bush District Pipe Band render a series of selections in the Main Street, prior to the concert programme, which opens in the Foresters' Hall. The gathering is expected to be one of the largest ever held in this town. Mr. J. H. Escott, M.P., has been elected patron of tlie Bush Rugby Union. Mr. W. J. Palmer has been reelected president, and Mr. W. White Scott secretary and delegate to the New Zealand Rugby Union. Owing to a large number of prominent senior Rugbyites having volunteered for _ service with the Expeditionary Forces, it is not anticipated that as many senior clubs will take the field as in previous seasons.
