REMITS FOR THE CONFERENCE. Remits from the Wairarapa were considered at FrfcTaj' night's meeting of the Wellington District Educational Institute, and were finally adopted in the following form: — "That the Journal of Education needs remodelling along more active lines; that its place of publication should be Wellington, and its editor a member of the Dominion Executive." "That a permanent secretary and Journal editor, at a salary to be fixed, be appointed to the N.Z.E.1." "That with the object of remunerating all disMct and branch secretaries, and greatly increasing tho activities of the institute, t'he subscrptions be substantially increased." "That all_ district and branch secretaries be paid at a per capita membership rate." "That this annual meeting set up a committee to report to the next annual meeting regarding the grading of teachers." "That the N.Z.E.I. earnestly endeavour to securo regulations preventing coaching out of school hours for junior scholarships examinations." "That m view of the number of teachers now taking university degrees, it is urgently necessary that education become a subject of honours and doctorate." Other resolutions passed and recommended to be sent on to the N.Z.E.I. for its consideration were: — "That the Senate of the University of Now Zealand ho urged to include agriculture as a subject for tho degrees of bachelor of arts and bachelor of science, and for senior and junior university scholarship." "That all schools situated ill a borough should bo provided with sufficient globe for the use ■of the teacher in residence." "That a committee he set up to consider the subject of touchers' regulations."
