STEAMER IN DISTRESS
Quite unexpectedly the Norwegian steamer Mathilda, 4031 tons, Captain Rasmussen, put into Wellington early yesterday morning, and anchored in the stream. Signals having been exchanged with the shore it was ascertained that the steamer was short of coal and provisions. She is bound from Talcahuano (Chile) to Melbourne with the first cargo of oats imported by the Victorian Government.
