ALLOCATION OF CARGO SPACE FOR MEAT
GOVERNMENT TO HAVE A VOICE., In future the New Zealand Government will have some voice in the allocation of shipping space for meat on Home-going steamers. This >s the ettect of a statement on the subject made by tbo Prime Minister yesterday. "It has been arranged," said _ Mr. Massey, "that the High Commissioner shall be a member of what is known as the Tonnago Committee of tho Board of Trade -in London, to look after New Zealand interests in the matter of shipping and insulated space. The Board of Trade has also consented to a representative of the New Zealand Government' acting on' the Shipping Committee in New Zealand. Mr. R. Triggs, Assistant Public Service Commissioner, who has assisted me in connection with tho export of frozen meat to the Impwial Government, will be the New Zealand Government's representative on , the Shipping; Committee. "It should be much more satisfactory to have tho New Zealand Government, directly represented on both bodies," said Mr. Massey. "It is hoped that by this means friction_ will bo avoided ann more satisfaction given to the interests of producers and those immediately concerned in the shipment of produco from the Dominion."
