HURRICANE AT NIUE
CROPS DESTROYED. . (Bj Telegraph.—Press Association.) . ' Auckland, April 30. The hurricane at Niuo Island in January blew down several thousand coconut trees and destroyed most of the banana and breadfruit trees. Tho mission church at Mutalan had the roof blown off, and two other churches suffered some damage. Hundreds of native huts were destroyed or damaged. The Government buildings escaped injury. When the ketch Kereru left for Auckland a few days ago there wore indications of a general recovery from the effects of the storm.
'On Monday at 2.30 p.m. Messrs, A. L. Wilson and Co. will sell bv public auction at their rooms, Lambton Quay, an exceptionally fine Axminster caTpet, 22ft. x which cost £15, also large hearthrug to match. The carpet is absolutely new, and of an English manufacture. The Public Trustee calling for tenders for the goodwill oi a seven years' leaso of the City Buffet Hotel, Lambtori Quay, or in the alternative for purchase of the freehold and license.
