; WAIHI BEEFS-GIGANTIC. The mine ' manager reports on operations at the mine for week ending April 24 as follows:—The contractors have advanced the north crosscut at 10(10 feet level 18ft., making total length, from shaft 368 ft. This face is still in the dark hard coun.try, but during the- week a cross-course formation about 4 inches in thickness hae been passed thToush,' causing a, slight change for the better, some of- the holes being much easier to drill. The S.E. face ha.s been advanced 17ft„ making total length from chamber 268 feet. We are now on the line as directed by the surveyor,' and sro penetrating andeeito country, showing strong veins of pyrites: the country in this face has improved during the week; the total driven for Keek ■is 35ft: All machinery is kept in good running ordesr, and every effort is being made to ret. crosscuts up to the estimated lino of reefs.
