AUSTRALIANS ALLEGEDLY UNDER-FED.' ' Melbourne,, April 29. In tho Federal House of Representatives; several questions were put regarding the alleged under-feeding of troops. Mr. Mathews moved che adjournment of the House, to call attention to the over-working and of the troops in Egypt. He laid the charge on the heads of affairs in Egypt. There had, he' said, been an enormous sick list, and there must be some reason for it. They could not beb'eve that Australia was a sick nation compared with others.
Sir Robert Best stated that at a time like the present the Department of Defence called for sympathy rather than criticism. However, very serious allegations had been made regarding the food supplied to the troops. • Mr. Jensen (Honorary Minister), replying, said he was sorry the matter had, been brought up. He did not think the position would be improved by its ventilation. The Defence Department was doing everything possible. General Bridges had reported that the health of the troops was generally good. He (the speaker) though', members should have more confidenco iu the Minister for Defence., The motion was negacivcd.
