« ; — GOVERNMENT GRANT WANTED. (By Telegraph.—Press*. Association.) Ounedin, Agril 29. A deputation from tho Imiversity Council waited on the Hon. R. H. Rhodes to-riay and asked for financial assistanco in'regard to tlie acquisition by the university of a site for a pro))<>sed new branch in connection with the medical school. Tho sneakers asked for £1000 for the site, £000 for a site for a mortuary, and the subsidisation of a lecturer's fees. The Minister said , lie could not promise £1000, he thought £500 would be sufficient, and should stand over till next year. While reserving a definite statement, on subsidising the lecturer's fee 3, he expressed the opinion that it would 'be outside the function of the Health Department.
