Mr. E. C. Holmes, of Masterton, has been appointed official representative for the Belgian Refugee Food Fund for New Zealand, by Mr. Frank Kitchener, brother of Lord Kitchener, who is secretary for this fund in; London. Mr. Holmes received on, Saturday last the following cablo message from London: "Kindly convey our thanks to the people of the. Wairarap'a district for their magnificent gift- of £150, also sheep, per Otaki and Waimate, received. Storage was given by Sir Montague Nelson, and we arc feeding upwards of 1000 refugees daily. We require urgently cheese, butter,-and jam." Mr. Holmes, in a covering letter states that a 601b. sheep provides a ration for 240 people a day on a }Ib. ration. ASHBURTON'S FETE. (By .Telegraph.—Press Association.) Ashburton, April 29. The Ashburton County Belgian Fete, organised in aid of the Relief-Fund, attracted about 10,000 people from all parts of Central Canterbury,' and though still in progress may already be 6tatcd to be a brilliant success. It was commenced this morning with a monster procession, which included many fine spectacular displays and humorous tableaux, and which took thirty minutes to pass a given point. The Show Grounds' had been quite transformed with'a mul- , titude of l tents containing stalls for the sale of 'produce and all kinds of articles, while there were side'-showg galore. Two thousand and fourteen sheep, ten head of cattle, ten horses, etc., which' had been' to- the Fund wero auctioned and realised: over £2000. . . .

Harrison (Bakaia district candidate),'l63,229 votes; Mis 9 L. Wilson (Metliven district), 150,324; Miss D. Keith (sports clubs), 101,269; Miss R. • Baird (auctioneer's),. 89,600; Miss M. Farrell (Hinds and Mayfield districts), 83,531 ;.Miss E. Fletcher (retailers of Ashburton), 45,607. The total votes were 633,560, representing oyer £7800, of which votes representing £2700 odd . were put in during the last few minutes.prior to the closing of tho poll. The fete is'.boine continued in tho' Domain to-night, when the crowning of the" queen and a grand concert will eventuate.
