TWO OUTBREAKS LAST EVENING. In gas-meter boxes two small fires originated within nine miiiutes of each other last evening. The first call to the Brigade received -at 10.39 p.m. came from 125, Moleswortli Street. ' It appears that Mrs. England, the occupant, smelling an escape of gas, .struck a match to discover the leak. Fortunately the front door of the house had been opened for the sake of ventilation, consequently the explosion, which followed the lighting' of the match was in significant, arid only the gas box was damaged. The' house is insured for £800, with the New Zealand Insurance Company, and the contents for £200 in the Sun Office. . Tile second outbreak occurred at 26 M'Donald Crescent, where little damage was done. The building is a. throe-story apartment dwelling, and the gas meter on the ground floor was where the fire originated although it is not known lioiv it OTCurr'ed. : » .
