INCREASE IN PENSIONS
POSTAL REVENUE HIGHER. (By Telcgranh.—l'russ Association.) Dunetiln, ipril 29. The Hon. R. H. Rhodes, PostmasterGeneral, informed a reporter to-day that for the year 1914-15 tho gross payments for pensions were -.—Old- age pensions, £460,800; widows, £31,600; and military,' £47,600. Total," £540,000. The increases 'were: —Old age pensions, £44,100; widows, £4500; military, £18,100. Total, £66,700. The _ increase recorded at the close of. the" previous year was £31,700. The numbers of pensions in force at the, close of the year were Old ace/ •19,365, increase of 318; widows, 1792, increase 252; military, 1 1392, increase of 152. Total, 22,252, increase of 1722. The Tourist Department showed an increase of £365 in revenue. With regard to tho Postal Department, although the accounts from all. the outlying districts were completed the revenue for tbe year just closed would exceed the 'estimate by about £13,000, and will be greater than that for the previous year by about £89,000.
