HOCKEY. MID-WEEK ASSOCIATION. Result of Matches. Petone 3 Pakeha 2 Ramblers 1 Hereawa 1 Tho mid-week players opened fheir season yesterday afternoon. The grounds were in fine condition, and fast play was the order of the day. None of the teams was up to full strength, and off-side play was very noticeable. PETONE V. PAKEHA. The match between Petone and Pakeha was played at Petone, and resulted in' a win for the local team by three goals to two, Petone scoring the winning goal just on the call of time. Each team played with nine men. From the bully-off Petone rushed play into Pakeha's quarters, and within a few minutes Cavill scored. Petone keeping up the attack, Cavill again found tho net. The play for a time was very even. Towards the end of the first spell a penalty bully was given against Pointon (Petone), from which Clapshaw scored a goal, Tho spell ended in favour of Petone by 2 to 1.

Tho play in tho second half started with Pakeha attacking, but olf-side play lost a good chance to score. Play for seme time was vory fast, the ball travelling from end to end every few minutes, but off-side play by both teams spoiled many chances of scoring. During the last quarter of an hour both sides were doing their best to score. Eventually Sheeran, for Pakeha, found the net, making the score two all. From a passing rush W. M'Ewaji by a brilliant piece of play finished up by finding the net and plaoing Petonc in the lead. For the winners M'Ewan, Cavill, and Parrant, and Gracie, Clapshaw, Paget, and Horton for Pkelia, were the pick. Mr. G. Empson was referee. RAMBLERS V. HEREAWA. Tho Rambers and Hereawa game was played at Karori. Each team played one short. The play throughout was very even, if anything slightly in favour of Ramblers. In the first spell R. Johnson scored for Ramblers, while in the second spell Kuch, for Hereawa, evened up matters. For Ramblers, Needham, Bush, and Johnson, and for Hereawa, Kuch, Clementson, and Brown were the hest of a good lot. Mr. J. C. Cusack was referee.
