WOOL, HIDE-S, AND SKINS. The Ilawke's Bay Farmers' Co-operative Association, Limited, report on their Dannovirke wool, skin, and hide sa.lc a efollows:—'We submitted an average G&taloguc to a fair attendance of buyers., Competition throughout, was keen, and everything but hides made extremely hiffh prices,, and showed considerable advances on any previous gales. Although we had no crutch' nigs ol much quality, wo (jot up to 113 d. for two lolfi, the lowest price. being lOd. Coarse fleocc wool made 12i»d. Hides showed a further drop on la.st s<vle, and the top price was 9d. for os. We quote as follows:— Wool.—Coarse fleece, 12Jd. aud 12d.; do., iti bags, lUd. Crut-chings. U2d„ lOfcd., IOJd., and.lOd.; dead, IOJd.; locks, Bid. Horsehair, Is. sid.; fundus, 3*d. Sheepskins.—Lambs, woolly, lid.; medium to coarse crossbred, 103 d.; second quality do., 9£d.; dead hoggets, 93d.: black, 7|d.; inferior and damaged skins, 3s. to 5d.; salted butchers' skins, 75.: others, 6s. 2d. and fc. 6d.; hoggets, 45.; black, 4s. Tallow.—24s. for first quality; 20s, 3d. for inferior. Hides.—Beet cow, Bd.; others, 7 5-Bd.; cut and slippy, 6gd. and 6Jd.j very inferior. 4d. and 13d. Horee, 6s. 6d. and 45.; bulls, 6d. per lb.; kips, 7&d. Calfskins, 91d. and 73d.; cut, 7fcd. Customs duty colected at the port of Wellington yesterday amounted to £2849 Os. fid. LONDON WOOL SALES. DECLINE IN GROSSBRED&. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) London, April 27. At the wool sales, a representative eeleo tion (12,556 bales), including 3723 bales ol Nbw Zealand, wad offered. There was a good attendance, but the market had a quiet tone, wtih little buoyancy. There were no American buyers present. Prices for best merinos wore Xairly maintained, average sorts were from 5 to 7i per cont. below, last closing rates, while orossbreds were from-id. to Id. lower. The fifth series will commence on Juno 29. The liet closes on Juno 7, or when ZCO.OGO bales have arrived. . HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Tho Department' of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has -received tho following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. London, dated London, April 27, in regard to the opening of the colonial wool sales:— The wool sales have commenced. Thero is a good attendance, with some French and American buyers operating, but bidding is taregular. The pricft. for superior merino is unchanged, but medium and inferior and all grades crossbrcd are $d. lower than closing rates at last sale. There are 75,000 bales of New Zealand wool available.
PRIVATE ADVICES. The Bank of New Zealand lias received the following cable advice from its London office, dated April 27"At the, wool sales, which opened to-day, crossbreds »ru 6 to 7J per cent, cheaper and all slipes are unchanged. Superior merinos are unchanged, but inferior sorts arc 7i per cent, cheaper. The date fixed for the fifth series is June 29." Messrs. Levin -and Co., Ltd., report that tley have received the following cable from their London agents:—"Greasy crossbreds -were 5 to 7j per cent, cheaper than at the last scries, while 6coured and slipo crossbrcd ajid best morino were unchanged. Faulty merinos 5 per cent, cheaper." Messrs. Dalgcty and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London office, under date Aipril 26:—The fifth Bcriea of wool sales havo been fixed to open on tho dune 29. TJui list of arrivals closes on June 7, or the date on which 200,000 bales net new axrivals have been received. Messrs. Murray, Roberta, and 'Co., Ltd., have received a cablegram from their London friends, Messrs. Sanderson, Murray, and Co., under date April 27, as follows:— "London Wool Sales.—Sales hava opened with go'od attendance and «ood competition. For best merinos thatc is no change, inferior 6 per rent, lower, crossbred 5 per cont. lower." • W.' and G. Turnbull and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cable from London:—"Crossbreds, 5 to 7J per cent, decline." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London houfle under date April 27:—"London fourth series wool sales openod with good competition. America competing. The market is firm for good merino. Inferior 'and faulty merino and greaey crossbrcd are 5 tier cent, lower. Fifth Borics wool 6alee fixed for June 29."

Medium and coarse crossbrcd rules 8 per cent, lower than closing rates of previous sale. MELBOURNE WOOL SALE. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) Melbourne, April 28. A fortnight's series of wool sales ■ has commenced. There are four thousand balos, a poor selection. Fair competition is being shown for good wools, which are 5 ner cent, below late rates.
