SCHOOL CHILDREN'S HEALTH
MEDICAL INSPECTOR'S REPORT. Thirteen schools were visited in the Wellington district by the medical inspector between February 10 and March 10, and in all 472 children were examined, of whom 183 were special cases. The following defects wero found among the children examined at the routine examination:— Number of children examined ... 289 Number found to havo no defects 88 Number fo.und to have defects ... 201 Number found to have defects other than dental 135 The details of the defects are as fellow Subnormal nutrition, 70 cases; malnutrition (bad cases), 8; pediculosis, 20; uncleanliness, 8; skin disease, 12; non-vaccination, 194; teirculator.y disease, 6; respiratory disease, 10. ■■_ Physical deformities—Stooped shoulders, 67; curvature, 7; flat chest, 3,4; pigeon breast, 4; other deformities, 1. Defective teeth, 163; enlarged tonsils, 76; adenoids and enlarged tonsils, 56; enlarged glands 121; external eye disease, 3; defective vision, 33; defective hearing, 32 ■ defective speech, 14. Mental—Backwardness, 15; feeble-mindedness, 1; imbecility, 0; epilepsy, 0; other nervous diseases, 1. Tuberculosis, 6; other diseases, 20.
