The Germans, two thousand strong, with six guns and many machine gunis, again attaoked on January 18, and the garrison, losing its commandor, surrendered on the l'Jth after exhausting its ammunition, losing 270 men mostly as prisoners. Concurrently from Umba we occupied Mafia, and the garrison surrendered.-

Our armed steamer on Lake Victoria Nyanza drove ashore and disabled the armed Gorman steamer Muauza. Our 'forces defeated 300 Germans in the Shirati district, ii.'fiuting heavy loss.
