A FRENCH REPORT
GERMAN ATTACKS REPULSED. (Rec. April 26, 0.30 a.m.) Paris, April 25. Official.—The entmy has renewed obstinate efforts to_ turn to good account tho surprise achieved by asphyxiating gases, but has failed. Our Zouaves and the Belgian Carbineers recovered the village of Lizerne, on the left bank of the Yser, which the enemy had temporarily carried. We appreciably progressed on our left, keeping touch with tho Belgians, and advanced more slowly on our right. The British troops meanwhile being subjected to a violent attack, replied with an immediate coun-ter-attack. The result is not yet announced.
The Germans exploded five heavy mines in the neighbourhood of our trenches on tho northern spur near the small fort of Beausejour. Despite violent explosions we out-distanced the enemy, and occupied the craters, which are twenty-five metres in diamoter. There has been hot fighting m tho Bois d'Ailly, tho Germans making repeated and desperate efforts to recapture the trenches taken on Thursday. After evacuating a portion, wo re-took 'and retain them.
