MOTOR-BOAT RACING

AN UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT. (By Telegraph.—Presß Association.) Auckland, April 25. The challenge races for the New. Zealand Power Boat Association's Speed Pennant and Challenge Shield between the Auckland launch Fleetwing (holder) and the Christchnrch launch Disturber (challenger) attracted considerable attention The day was perfect, there being a dead calm and bright sun. shine.

Fleetwing won the first of the three races by 35sec., the three and a half knot course being covered in lOmin. 22sec.

An unfortunate inoident occurred at the start of tho second race, which the postponement of that and the third. Several pleasure craft obstructed the course, and the Fleetwing, in an endeavour to avoid these boats when manoeuvring to get into position for the start, collided with the Disturber and put her out of action. Tho Disturber ; .vas raced to the Slip, and arrived in a sinking condition. The injury was not serious, and it is possible' that tho second and third races will le held to-morrow afternoon.

It was subsequently announced that the Disturber would probably bo repaired in time to complete the test on Monday afternoon.

Tho following very interesting cablegrain H as received by tlie British Imperial Oil Company, Wellington, on April 20th:— "The Proprietors of SHELL SPIIUT at present hold solo contract for supply of Motor Transport Spirit to His Majesty's Forces, both' at Home an<l on tho Continent."
