FREIGHT RATES SUSPENDED
SHIPPING COMPANIES' DECISION,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) I Auckland, April 21., Information has been received that the present rates of freight on goods I shipped to or from New Zealand have been suspended. It is explained that this course of action has boon adopted by the shipping companies owing to tha world-wide demand Tor tonnage and tha ■uncertainty regarding charters.\ The representative of one of tho shipping companies explained this evening that having suspended all existing tariffs the companies will probably fix tha rates of freight for oach vessel as it comes on to the loading berth. .He remarked that conditions would be virtually, the same as in the days of sailing' ships ■when such a. thing as a fixed tariff was unknown.
