A USEFUL DONATION
LETTER FROM LIEUT-COL. (DR.) BEGG. The officer oommanding the New Zealand Field Ambulance in Egypt, Lieu-tenant-Colonel C. M. Begg, has written as follows to the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke), as chairman of the local Patriotic Fund Committee: — "I have just received from the High Commissioner in. London tho sum of £500 which your committee so generously provided for comforts for the sick and wounded. Fortunately, so far ,we have not had to do very much in this way, as tho troops have really suffered very littlo from ill-health. Thanks to tho fine climate hero, beyond a few cases of pneumonia there has been little sickness. With the money you have provided I have designed and had made six tents which tit over the top of tho ambulance wagons and peg out at each side. In this way cacn provides shelter for about thirty wounded if no buildings are available for them. If the weather is wet such a shelter will be of the greatest comfort to the injured, and in cold weathor may savo many lives. Wc were fortunate in' having a littlo preliminary work down on tho Canal, but, of course, there most of our work was among the Turkish wounded. I will keep you informed from time to time of the use that is being made of the money so kindly subscribed, and I would be grateful if you would convey my best thanks, to tho publio who. have made it possible for me to provide comforts outside those provided under regulation."
