BOY DROWNED IN OHAU RIVER. Telegraphed advice was received at local .police headquarters yesterday that a boy of fifteen years, named Andrew Davis, an inmate of the Boys' Farm, near Levin, had been drowned in the Ohau River that morning. Tho body had not been recovered. A FATAL FALL. (By Telecranh—Press Association.* Whangarel, April 21. An extraordinary accident unexpectedly ending fatally to-day occurred at tho Wairua Falls in connection with the Dominion Cement Company's works in course of erection. On Monday Thomas Oldcom, a middle-aged carter, residing at Whangarei, was driving a five-horsed covcred van between the sheer-legs of a derrick. He thought the wheel would touch one of the legs, so leaned forward to prevent a collision. The endless derrick chain caught him round tho neck and dragged him from his seat, 7 feet high, to the ground. Oldcom did not. consider himself badly hurt, and was taken, protesting, to the doctor. His condition became worse, and he was sent to the hospital, where he died to-day. The verdict at the inquest was that death was due to shock and injuries accidentally received. BRICK WALL GIVES WAY. Timaru, April 21. William Fitzgerald, a builder's labourer and an experienced man, who was one of a. party engaged in pulling down the old Grosvenor Hotel, this afternoon was standing on top of a brick wall when it gave way under him. He fell head first on ,the hard footpath, and died shortly after. The deceased was an old resident and the father of a, largo family. On Saturday last he saw the fourth of his sons off to Trenthnm. FALL FROM A WAGON. New Plymouth, April 21. A man named Herbert J. Hollington was killed on the Main South Road, three miles from New Plymouth, this afternoon, as the result of a fall fiom a six-horse wagon which he was driving. He is believed to be a resident of the Nelson district, and leaves i widow and five children, the eldest aged seven. KICKED TO DEATH. Ashburton, April 21. At Fairton on Tuesday night Georgo M'AUister, a resident of Ashburton, CO years nf age, employed .at the Fairfield freezing works, was catching his horse prior to returning home, whoa tho animal reared and kicked him in the abdomen. M'AUister drove him, but on arrival complained of pains in the stomach. He was admitted to the Hospital yesterday, and died there last night before an operation could be performed. SUICIDE OF A STOREMAN. Ctiristohurch, April 21. John Tudor Williams, aged 50, mar.ried, employed as a storeman, committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor at Bfc. Albans this morning. Ho was suffering from nervous depression.; DROVfNED WHILE BATHING. Levin, April 21. A lad named Davis, aged 15, was drowned while bathing- in the Ohau River this morning through being seized 'with cramp. BODY FOUND. Rotorua. April 20. Th'e body of C. L. over 70 years of age, who wandered from Doyle's Tennessee Station on Atiamuri Road on Good Friday, was recovered this morning lying in tussocks live miles from the station. He had beon. apparently dead tan days.
