EDUCATION COUNCIL

NOMINATIONS RECEIVED. Nominations were received yesterday for the members ■ of the Education Council who are to be elected under the new Act. Under the statute passed last session the Council of Educar tion is_ to consist of the Director of Education, the Assistant Director of Education, an inspector appointed by the Minister, three other members also appointed by the Minister, representing industrial, technical, and female interests, and a member of the University of New Zealand appointed by the Senate. In addition there are tb be members elected, by various education sections. These groups with the nominations received yesterday are as follow:— Two members to be elected by members of the Education Boards in the North Island. —Five nominations— Messrs. J. 6. W. Aitken (Wellington), I (jr. J. Garland (Auckland), J. R. Kirk 1 (Hawke's Bay), H. Trimble (Taranaki), and P. Pirani (Wanganui).

. Two members to be elected by the Education Boards of the South Island. —Six nominations—Messrs. W. N. Franklyn (Nelson), J. C. Thomson (Southland), C. H. Onie (North Canterbury), J. Mitchell (OtagoY, J- Grimmond (Westland), and W. L. Hamilton (South Canterbury). One member to be elected by certificated male teachers of the public schools of the North Island. Two nominations—Messrs. T. A. "Wells (Auck-. loiid) and H. N. Parkinson (Wellington).

One member to be elected by certificated male teachers of tte publio schools of the South Island—Mr. JCaughley (North Canterbury), elected. One member to be elected by male teachers of secondary and technical schools. —Three nominations —Messrs. J, W. Tibbs (Auckland), G. George (Auckland), and F. H. Campbell (Dunedin). One member to be elected by certificated women teachers of the publio schools of the North Island.—Two nom. inations—Misses E. Simpson (Auckland) and P. Myers (Wellington). One member to be elected by the certificated women teachers of the South Island.—Miss B. A. Chaplin (Christchurch), elected.
