GERMANS' LATEST EXPLOIT HELPLESS TRAWLER TORPEDOED London, April 19. The Grimsby trawler Fermo reports that a submarine ■ yesterday torpedoed the trawler Vanilla in the North Sea. The trawler was almost shattered, and sank immediately. The Fermo, which was 300 yards away, attempted to pick up those who were struggling in the water, but the submarine turned a gun on the rescuers and fired a torpedo, forcing the Fermo to seek safety in flight. . "SECOND MURDER. OF FISHER FOLK." (Rec. April 20, 9.25 p.m.) London, April 20. The Admiralty states that the killing of fisherfolk for no military purpose will not escape attention. "This is the second murder of the kind which has been committed within a week. A careful record Js being kept.
The High Commissioner reports:— London, April 20, 1.55 p.m. "On 'Monday a German submarine torpedoed and "sank the British trawler Vanilla. Another trawler which was endeavouring to rescue the crew was fired at and driven off. All hands on the Vanilla were lost. "The Admiralty points out that this is the second murder of fisher folk, for nojnilitary purpose, within a week." THE SINKING OF THE KATWYK GERMAN" PROMISE TO HOLLAND. (Rec. Germany, on her own initiative, has informed Holland that it is possible that through an accident a German submarine torpedoed the Dutch steamer Ivatwyk, and that if inquiry proves this to be the case full compensation will be made.
