PLAN OF ATTACK AT NEUVE CHAPELLE

A report issued by the Press Bureau describe the British Council of War which preceded the Battle of Neuve Chapelle, and outlines the plan of attack. Ifc was calculated that thirtysix hour 3 would elapse before the Germans would be able to reinforce. "Neuve Chapelle was the first- objective, and afterwards the troops were to press on to the Bois de Biez. The attack was entrusted to the Indianfon the right, and the Fourth Army Corps on the centre and left. After the first line trenches were captured the Indians were to sweep on to the Bois de Biez, while the French were to occupy the village. "A German captain in one of tho enemy's trenches noticed an unusual movement in the Br'tish lines, and urgently requested that the artillery should open fire, but the artillery commander replied politely that his injunctions wero not to lire without tho expressed order of the corps commander. "Hell then broke loose with a mighty, hideous, screeching "noise, as hundreds of guns spoke. The troops were ready to advance on the village before tha artillery had finished its work, and stood in the open laughing and joking amid the terrific din.
