'At a> representative meeting of delegates from the various Caledonian and kindred societies in the Wairarapa and Forty-Mile, Bush Districts, held in Masterton on Saturday, the following resolution was unanimously earned:— "That a governing body be appointed for the control of piping and dancing in New Zealand." Steps were taken in the direction of forming a branch of the Wairarapa _ Caledonian Society at Pahiatua, and it is proposed to amalgamate the Wairarapa and Bush Pipe Bands. The price of pats to storekeepers has been increased to Is. 3}d. per pound. The Msstorton Homing Pigeon Club flew a young bird race from Kaikoura South on Saturday. The first bird home was Mr._ J. B. P. Sutherland's Chance, which did the distance in 4hrs. Threshing operations are still in procress in_ this district. Although the cereal yield was small, in consequence l of the drought, crops returning forty, bushels per acre of oats -have not been uncommon. The lease of portion of the Admiral Run, containing 2000 acres, will shortly expire. The Government intends cutting it up into small allotments, and there is likely to be a big rush for sections, as the land is of excellent quality.
