WIMMERA DUE FRIDAY. A departure from Melbourne for Hobart and Wellington on Saturday was the Hudsteamer Wimmcra. The vessel should arrive here on Friday evening. Before leaving for aouthorn ports. Hobart, and Melbourne at 5 p.m. on Saturday, the Wimmcra will land 480 tons of Melbourne cargo at Wellington. STAR OF SCOTLAND DUE APRIL 27. Having arrived at Auckland from London, via Australian ports on Sunday evening, the 0. and D. liner Star of Scotland is expected to arrive at Wellington on Tuesday, April 27. She will make a call at Gisborne coming down the coa6t. NEW STEAMERS BUILDING. It is reported that the New Zealand Shipping .Company is building five, the Federal Company five, and the Shaw, Sa.vill and Albion Company fouT, new steamers for the Australian and New Zealand services, some of which have already been launched, and, although the war has greatly interfered with the completion of delivery of tho now vessels, the owners anticipate that some of the vessels will be available at tho end of the year.

ANOTHER U.S.S. CO.'S STEAMER SOLD. Latest, mail advice from Australia states that MeEsrs. Lane and Dawson have purchased the Union Steam Ship Company's steamer Hauroto, 1988 tons gross register, hut for what business it is not 6tated. The Hauroto is well known in the Australasian trade, having traded to Wellington in many of the company's different services, but of late years she has been in the island service from Auckland to Fiji and Tonga, S.S. SOUTHERN CHANGES HANDS. An English shipping paper states that the ! steel shelter.-deck steamer Southern, 4769 | tons' gross, built at Sunderland, in 1912 by Messrs. J. L. Thompson and Sons, Ltd., classed 100 Al Lloyd's, engines 445, and 74 by 48in stroke, dimensions 388 ft 7in by 54ft li. by 26ft., owned by the Century Shipping Company, Ltd. (Messrs. Harris and Dixon, Ltd., managers), London, lias been sold for 'about .£BO,OOO to Dutch buyers. Hie Southern visited Wellington in August last year with cargo for the Now Zealand Shipping Co., from Montreal. SALE OF THE MERSEY. The steel ship Mersey, 1446 tons rcg., built at Glasgow in 1894 by Messrs. C. Connell and Co., classed 100 Al and pased Lloyd's special survey No. 1 in 1911, carries about 2700 ton dead weight on 20ft. 6in. draught, dimenions 270 ft. 7in. by 39ft. by 22ft. Sin., owned by the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company, Ltd. (White Star Line), Liverpool, and now at Liverpool, has been sold to Scandinavian buyers for about £7000. This vessel was formerly one of the fine fleet of olippors engaged in carrying coolies between tho East and West Indies under Government survey, and was acquired by tho White Star Line seven years ago for the purposes of a training vessel at a price of about £7000. She has visted Australasian waters several times. NOTICE TO MARINERS. Atkinson, second engineer ol the John, has come ashore at Wellington. Mr. D. M'Laren has filled the vocalics. It is reported that the Melbourne S.S. Company's steamer Brisbane had been sold to Japanese buyers, and would shortly leave for the East. The Brisbane, which was formerly known as the Beeswing, was built at Grangemouth in 1882, and is a vessel. of 877 tons net and 1119 tons gross. The Brisbane is a well-known trader to Wellington. The C. and D. liner Indrabarah, which cleared London on April 11 for Wellington, via Australian ports and Auckland, will be' followed by the same company's Indrapura on May 3. for the same ports. An arrival at Tima.ru at 4.45 p.m. yesterday was the Union steamer Kaitangata. She has brought a full load of salt and gypsum from Edithhurg, South Australia,, to New Zealand ports. Subsequently the vessel will visit Wellington. After transferring 1000 crates of cheese lrom Onehunga, and 4500 orates of cheese end 113 boxes butctr from New Plymouth, to the lonic at Wellington to-day. the Corinha will take cargo to Oamaru, Dunedlu, and Timaru to-morrow. It is stated that shipbuilders are now quoting £8 ss. to £8 10s. a, ton for new steamers of ab«ut 7000 tons dead weight, and £9 a ton for smaller vessels. Prices for engines have advanced since October from 12S per cent, to 15 per cent. A Press Association message from London yesterday announces the departure of the La Blonca for Wellington. The La Elanea is a steamer of 6813 ton 6, commanded by Captain Jarvis, and is running .under charter to the Federal-Shire line. She is bringing a full cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin in that order. The coastal steamer Wootton is due at Wellington late this afternoon from Lyttelton with a load of sheep for Miramar. She lias a quantity of produce on board, and after having discharged it- at a town wharf | will return to Lyttelton to pick up another load of 6heep. A projected departure from Wellington for London early this morning is the C. and D. liner Hawke's Bay. Present arrangements are that the 0. and D. steamer Muntai will leave the Bluff this afternoon to continue Homeward loading at Napier. Before the Huddart-Parltor steamer Wcatralla leaves Wellington for southern ports this afternoon she will land 320 tons of northern cargo at the Queen's Wharf No. 1 south. Information bos been received in. Wellington stating that the Shaw, Savill liner Arawa left Brisbane for Waitara on Sunday. She is due at the latter port on Thursday next, to commence loading for London. "Bairplay" 6totes that the price paid for the F. and S. liner Buteshire by Houldcr Bros, was £41,0C0. Messrs. Dalgcty nnd 00., local agents for the South Taranaki Steamship Company, advise that the coastal steamer Mana—the well-known Patca trader—is in the market for sale as she lies at present at Patra. The Mana Is a vessel of 134 tons gross and 77 tons net. Her dimensions are:—Length, 99ft.; bTcadth, 5.10 ft.; depth of hold, 78ft. She is insulated in two holds, and has a sped of about eight knots. A new boiler was placed in the Mana about five years ago. . The Arahura arrived at Grcymouth from Wellington,' via way ports, at 11 a.m. vesterday. She was to have left on tho return trip at 11 p.m. New Plymouth and West Coast cargo will ho lifted at Wellington by tho Union steamer Poherua to-day. The Now Zealand Shipping Company's Rakaia, which was sold to the Jilue Star Line recently, has been renamed Broadniead.
