HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION

THE AUCKLAND PETITION. (By Telejraph.—Presu Association.) Auckland, April 19. As the result of tho scrutiny of the 10,457 iiames on tile petition asking for a. poll on the half-holiday question it has been found that only '4257 are electors on various rolls of the united districts referred to by the petition. The names of a number of people recently dead appear as signatures. Similarity of handwriting leads the, investigator's to make the assertion that two men. r,ro responsible for 570 signatures. ■ As the names thus far accepted by the scrutineers are less than the total number required to secure a poll, it is doubtful at present whether the City Council will order a poll to be taken.
