THE "SIXTH" IN CAMP
The members of the Sixth Reinforcements are now shaking down in their quarters at Trent-ham. So far some of them have not/yet got the bearings? of the. big canvas town, and. were to be 6een yesterday afternoon walking vaguely between.the lines lookiug for "'home." A competent' lot of officers and noncoms. can do wonders in a day or .two, and by the end of the week it will be difficult to. distinguish between a* Fifth and Sixth man to all save the expert; The consciousness that a mail has to live up to his uniform and has to ','play the game" has a wonderfully smartening influence - on. men in the mass. Only hard work and a cheerful disposition can do the rest. There • are a good proportion of men who signed on to go into camp with the Wellington quota of the . Sixth, and who, failed to put in an appearance yesterday morning. This conduct is highly reprehensible, as not only does it givo the staff a lot of unnecessary work, But it has'also been the means of preventing many a good man getting awtiy who was keen to do, so. That the men are still anxious to get an early .place in the forces 'was proved' yesterday, when, without any effort, the places of those who failed to respond were filled by men prepared to go into camp at a day's notice, besides which there was a very heavy day in respect to recruiting in ordinary as the list shows.
