THE "FIRST EXTRAS"

Happily for the troops they l , 6 to depend on tents to withstand the wet and cold inseparable ' r .°™ .water. A start is. to bo made with the erection of-hutments for officers and mon, and within a couple of months it is anticipated that- all-hands will nave the soM ' protection of a corrugated iron house "with all - tho comforts of: a home."' Each of tho men s hutments is to accommodate 100 men, and if, there are many looking for. amusement after the . toil of tlie day tliey will be able to have a'good time until "lights out" under far more comfortable circumstances than now. ; The establishment of the ".First Extras" is being made up this week. . It will be sent out at once to the differentmilitary districts, • and between-one month and six weeks from date :it is anticipated that the 'whole of'the new force will bo in camp; .With.the. addition', of this force of 2500 men. the number of men. in camp, say early, iiiJune, should total about 6750 men of all ranks.- It is assumed that the, "First Extras''- will'be in camp about the same length of time, as the Reinforcements (four months). Colonel.Fulton, and tho five officers who were withdrawn from the Fourth Reinforcements ;on Friday last, will form, tho nucleus df the officers for the new force.
