AGITATION IN SYDNEY. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) Sydney, April 17. The Labour Conference, after negativing the taking of a referendum on the question; resolved by 53 votes to 47 that it is desirable to take immediate steps in the question of closing the hotels and wineshops at 6 o'clock. The women delegates were divided on the subject, a majority voting in favour of the proposal. One of the opposing delegates declared that she had seen more drunkenness in a closed area in New Zealand than in the free ones. An influential petition is being signed, asking the Lord Mayor to call a meet inn to forward tile movement, and to follow the example of the King's pledge during tho war period.
