Britisher travelling in Germany, towards England. On August 3 a German officer—Nicolay prevented Hedley leaving the train, and shot Hedley, on the ground that Hedley was about to attack him. . A court-martial was opened and abandoned. Britain ban now informed Germany that she considers that H'edloy was murdered. DETAILB OF THE,OUTRAGE. (Rec, April 19, 0,5 a.m.) London, April 17, Hedley was a rich and clever artist, and a student of literature. . Fearing the outbreak of war he secured passports to return to England with his housekeeper, Mrs. Fratley. The latter emphatically denies that there was an altercation with the conductor of the train, and declares it preposterous to say that Hedley used offensive remarks about German officers. Nicolay fell and • was carried to the hospital. Though the German official account states thai 'onlookers thrust Hedley to the platform resisting with all Ms migljt nothing was heard of his fate for weeks. The Foreign Office repeated}.? inquired, and all concentration camps were searched and finally the German Government admitted that he. was killed. Mrs. Fratley was imprisoned until November 21, and she is now broken in health. Nioolay was promoted to captain.
