WORKERS' EDUCATION ASSOCIATION
•The Wellington Centre of "the Workers' Education Association _of New Zealand was formally established last evening. Delegates from thirteen affiliated societies were present, together with individual members. • The constitution of the centre, was formally adopted, and the election of officers'resulted as follows President, Mr. A. H. Hindmarsh, M.P.; treasurer, Mr. L. M. A. Kearden; honorary secretary, Mr D. Stanley Smith. A deputation committee, consisting of Professor Hunter and Messrs. M. J. Mack, Hustler, and Wiilis, was appointed, the member) of which are to wait on bodies which can help the association. Over thirty students were enrolled, the majority of whom desire to 6tudy economics aiid industrial history.
It is probable, says our Petone correspondent, that the Mayors of Hutt and Petone (Messrß. Baldwin and M'Ewan respectively) will ,bo returned unopposed, bub it is considered likely that a keen contest will take placo for seats on both councils. With the exception of Councillor Kempthorne, all tho sitting members of the Hutt Council will seek re-election, and it is suggested that five or six new candidates will enter the field. On account of well-known GlO head of cuttle, in lots, will be auctioned at llessrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd.'s second animal rale, at the Hun'terville Yards, on April 22. The list of breeders contributing stock to this sals is advertised elsewhere in this issue.
