LIQUOR FOR A DRUNKEN NATIVE.
MAGISTRATE'S STRONG COMMENT. (By Telegraph—PreE3 Association.) Hamilton, April 10. Mr. Rawson, to-day fined a barman named Robinson £20 for suppljing a drunken Native with liquor lii the Waipa Hotel, Ngaruawahia The barman's excuse was that he did not notice the Native's condition, but.the Magistrate said this story was now too old to be given orcdenoe. His experience was that licensees and barmen did not „ care. The main thing with them was to get 1 rid of their liquor. He had., also discovered that even to impose the maximum penalty of £50 had little effect, as the profits wore so abnormal as to make the fine a mere bagatelle. The only thing to do to-stop the practice was to endorso the license. Had it been proved that the licensee had knowledge of the serving in this instance he certainly would have endorsed the license.
