COMMERCIAL DEFENCE FUND
FAVOURED BY A SPECIAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Special Committee of the Wellington Central Chilmber of Commerce which was set up to report on Mr. A. Leigh Hunt's Commercial Defence Fund Scheme was held on Monday, and a report was prepared favouring the adoption of the scheme. The report will be presented at the meeting of the Central Chamber of Commerce next week. The objects of the scheme are: —"To creato a fund to enable the Chamber: (1) To assist in bringing or defending legal actions: (a) In matters of general commercial interest; (b) designed to protect or maintain the interests described and enumerated in the 'objects' clauses of the Chamber's constitution. (2) To obtain legal opinion on matters of general commercial interest for the guidance of subscribers to the fund. To assist in bringing back to the Dominion absconding debtors of members of the Chamber who are .subscribers to the fund."
