BOXING

THE NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. (By Telegraph.—Fress Asßociation.l Christchuroh, April 10. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Council the • report stated tbat the question of carrying out the Na* l&aland Championships would be a matter for the incoming Council to consider. So far as the season went there was ample evidence to show that there -was no falling-off in public interest The balance-sheet showed receipts for the season as £331 9s. 4d., and expenditure £138 17s. 6d., leaving a credit balanco of £192 lis. lOd. Officials were appointed as under:— Patron, Hon. A. L. Herdman; council committee, Messrs. C. T. Aschman, C. J. Cooper, J. R. Evans, J. F. Grierson, F. J. Johnston, A. R. Kirk, and J. R. Olliver; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. G. Atkin; hon. auditor, Mr. E. Marsh. Mr. Evans was appointed ohairnian of the council for the year.

On the recommendation of the Otago Association the reinstatement of J. M. Patterson was agreed to. The Whangarei Boxing Association affiliated. The delegates attending the. conference held at Wanganui in July last had recommended that the Now Zealand championship tournament this year by allotted to the Hawke's Bay Association. That body had writton on January 14_ asking the council's views on tho advisability of carrying out the events in view of the national crisis. As at the time of the receipt of tho correspondence there seemed to be a disposition on the part of other sports bodies _ to cancel • their annual championships the council decided to fall in line if this idea were carried out. Nothing'of the 1 kind, however, had transpired, and as the holding of the meeting was not calculated to interfere with the authorities in _ the matter of recruiting, the council decided to accept the recommendation of the Wanganui Conference and allotted the events to tho Hawke's- Bay Association.
