MURDER & SUICIDE

A JEALOUS HUSBAND'S CRIME,

Chrlstohuroh, April U. A shocking murder followed by tie suicide- of the murderer happened at Woolston this morning. Tho facts are that Charles Gustavo Petersen, aged 64, a labourer, residing in Park Street, Woolston, and his wife, Catherino Mary Poterson, aged 48, were found in their bedroom about midday quite dead, the husband having cut the wife's throat with a razor and then his own. The razor waß found lying at the back of the husband, close to his head.

Gustavo Vincent Petersen, aged about 25 years, who resided with his parents, left home at 5 a.m., and went fishing at Redcliffs, and on his return about midday found tho blinds down, the fire unlit, and on entering the bedroom found his parents dead. The husband had not been working for the past four years, and is alleged to have developed a mania of jealousy. He laboured under the delusion that many men were in tie house or visited it, and on several occasions half threatened violence to his wife. Mrs. Petersen had been in failing health recently, and for the last fortnight had been worse.

At the inquest a verdict was recorded that tho wife was murdered by the husband, and that the husband committed suicide.
