HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
—-—« — : ... •from Our Special Correspondents At the quarterly meeting 'of the l'etone Methodist Church tho numbers wore reported to be:—Nelson Street, 125; Jackson Street, 38Wainui, 16; total, 179. At Hutt, tho showed that the quarter was commenced with a. debit balance of over £19, and ended with a credit of £4. The receipts totalled £115 and the expenditure £111. The annual report of the Petone Junior Club states that the committee durmg the year made considerable alterations in the method of controlling the institution. During the previous year'the sum of £20 had been raised by debentures, but it was found that even this step was inadequate to place the finances on a sojind basis. A saving had been effected through members doing the work of the custodian througE tho day. _ The landlord agreed to a reduction in the rent during the war, which naturally assisted to place the club in a better position. The membership at present oxceeds that of last year by twenty, and fivo billiard and two snooker tournaments had been held, and the Tarsone Cup was won by Mr. B. Hoive. An account had been opened at the Post Office Bank as a sinking fund for the repayment of debentures. The thanks of the olub are due to tho officers for their zeal duriug the past year, and in spite of the fact that twenty members are serving with various military forces, there is every prospect of the institution making headway. A benefit performance was tendered to the Hutt Municipal Band last evening by the King George Picture Proprietary at the Town Hall. There was a fairly large attendance, and it is anticipated that a fair sum of money will bo realised as a> result.
