| JOTTINGS FROM PROVINCIAL I CENTRES. | (From Our Sceclal Correspondents.) CARTERTON. Members of tie 17th Ruahine Regiment went into camp at Opaki yesterday for seventeen days' training. A meeting of the Carterton Patriotic Committee was held on Tuesday evening, when final, arrangements were made in connection with the concert to-ni"ht. Mr. W. Howard Booth reported tnat during his visit to Wellington he had consulted with the Belgian Consul regarding the flag to be sold by auction, and as it was not possible to get the Belgian coat-of-arms worked on the banner, the consul had graciously donated a co'at-of-arms, to be painted' by Mr. W. A. Bowring, a Wellington artist. This will . be painted on canvas, and framed, and will be offered in conjunction with the flag. A painful accident happened to a 16-year-old son of Mr Ornish, of Dalefield, during th<S holidays. He was out Bhooting with some companions, and was in the act of firing into a rabbit burrow. He did so, with the result that lie shot the big toe off one of his feet. The Rev- 0. H. Standage, accompanied by Mrs. and lliss Standage, leaves here next week for Karori, whore he takes up Mothodist cirouit work. MASTERTON. ' A man, Samuel Vance, wit'h a number of aliases,' who was arrested in the Marlborough district on a charge of forgery, etc., was brought before Justices on Wednesday, charged with forging and uttering, a number of cheques in Masterton in August, 1912. The accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Tile man Hodgkinson, who was killed in a motor collision at Napier, was a brother of Mrs. Kosson, of Masterton.
