BAND CONTEST
DETAILS OF GRADE A RESULTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Chrlstohurch, April 8.
The band contest concluded after midnight. Following is the full result of the A Grade selection for the championship:—Woolston, first test, 89; second test, 94; total. 183. _ Timaru, 82 —90 —172; Wanganui Garrison, 92— 77—169; Hibernian (Invercargill), SOBS—168; Nelson, 87 —80 —167; Wellington Tramways. 84 —82 —166; Westport, 74-86-160; Oamaru, 77—74—151.
Tho final test selection was "Souvenir der Richard Wagner." It is lone and very heavy, and tested the hands severely in stamina. 'The Woolston Band, who made a remarkable success with their interpretation on theMeverbeer selection, surpassed last night their first score. The final march particularly was executed with, wonderful brilliancy'and tone power. On the other hand, the "Pilgrims' Chorus" was only understood in its ideal meaning bv the Wanganui Band. Timaru gave on both nights highly creditable. _ thouehtful performances. The Hibernians made a splendid fight for a place.
