ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
LOSS OF AN EYE. On Sunday Mr. A. W. Kitson, formerly of the Bank of New Zealand staff, and well-known in local ' Esperanto circles; met with a painful accident by whioh he lost his left eye. He was returning from the top of the.Rimutaka, rauge when he fell and ran a stake under his left eye. He was brought by his companions to the Thornuon Private Hospital, where the eye had to be removed. He was reported to be progressing satisfactorily last night. KNOCKED DOWN BY A TRAIN. Mr.- Barnes, a resident of Ngaio, and a momber of the staff of Messrs. E. W. Mills and Co., met with an accident at Ngaio Station yesterday. He was crossing the line to jointho train to the city, and failed to notice an oncoming train. Ho was caught by the foot and dragged for some distance. He suffered a broken ankle and a crushed foot, but was able to be taken to his home. RIDER SERIOUSLY INJURED. (By TeleertLDh—Press Association.) Clsborne,. April 6. Whilst X. Agnew was' riding in a jumping event at Waipiro Bay sports his horse fell. Agnew was injured internally, and lies in a critical condition. . RAILWAY SHUNTER KILLED. Christchurch, April 6. ■ Alfred Henderson, a railway shunter, who had bis forearm and thigh fractured this morning whilst engaged in his work in Linwood station yard, died in . the Hospital. tliis _ evening. When admitted to the Hospital he was semiconscious and he never fully regained consciousness.,
