SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY
9 At Everybody's Theatre last night, under the auspices of the Wellington branch of the Social Democratic Party, Mr. H. E. Holland (Labour candidate for the City Council) delivered an interesting lecture on "Charles Darwin and Karl Marx, two of the great revolutionary thinkers of the 19th Century." The lecturer said that the greatest revolutionists were those who revolutionised the thoughts of people of the present and future generations. This could be woll said of Darwin and Marx. 'Whatever civilised country one entered, these two great thinkers illuminated and guided the thoughts of present writers and thinkers. In their own day Darwin and Marx were anathema to the religious and economic high priests, but to-day these groat writers' works guided the thinkers of all civilised nations. Both Darwin and Marx were charged with having made hasty conclusions, but these charges were... proved to bo faise, for Darwin studied 28 years on bis great work before he issued his generalisations. The same fact applied to Marx, who studied his subject for 40 years before he published his great work, "Das Capital." Both these great thinkers are buried in London— Darwin in Westminster Abbey and Marx in Highgate Cemetery.
