STEPS INTO GERMAN. SHOES (Rec. 'April 6, 0.20 a.m.) London, April 4. Renter' 6 Tokio correspondent rcportß that Count Okunia iu an interview said that in Peking wero- progressing favourably. It was ' untrue that China was endeavouring .unduly delay a settlement. The false impres' sion regarding the negotiations was due to German agitators. Japan's proposals wero' in complete accordance with the Anglo-Japanese Alliance and the other treaties guaranteeing equal opportunity in and the integrity of China. Japan 1 was not seeking a monopoly, and was not demanding iho appointment of Japanese advisers. She was not seeking protectorate, but was only asking in Shantung what China liad already granted to Germany. A RUSSIAN VERSION. (Rec. April 5, 1.20 a.m.) London, April 4. Advices received in Pctrogrnd state that China transfers to Japan all Germany's former rights in Shantung. The agreement precludes l Gormany from ac-. quiring colonies or a sphere of interest in China.
