CLEVER SEAMANSHIP FAILS,! (Rec. April 5, 0.20 a.m.) London, April 3; The Middlesbrough .steamer Lockwood (1143 tons) was torpedoed and sunk off Start Point, steaming at full speed. She was cleverly manoeuvred, making it impossible for the submarine to got a" straight shot, but later a big sea hit the Lockwood, preventing her from answering Her helm. Tho submarine fired two ineffective torpedoes, and then rapidly dosing in. sent a third at a range of fifty yards. This struck the vessel amidships. The explosion badly damaged -the smack, .whieh picked,up tho crew. There is a Start Point in Cornwall* in Devon, and also in the Orkneys. FRENCH FISHING BOAT TORPEDOED. ■ ■ Paris, April-4.' The French fishing boat Paquerettei was torpedoed off Fecanip. Tho crew, wcro saved. .... ~
