SOUTHLAND AND OTAGO. IBj Teleeraph.—Prew Association.) Dunedin, April 2. Tile return match between Southland And Otago was commenced at Carisbrook this morning. The weather was dull, but the wicket was easy. Southland won the toss and decided to bat. compiling a total of 226 runs. A feature of the Southland innings , was the batting of l'oole, who compiled 77 by 6plendid cricket, scoring freely with an oil-drive. I'he remaining batsmen who reached double figures also batted well. Kamsdcn and Crawford divided tho bowling honours, the former securing four wickets for 63 runs, and the latter five for 60. The annual match between tho Permanent and Casual employees of the Harbour Board was played yesterday, the former winning by an innings and 28 runs. Scores: —The Ca6ual staff made 37 and 3!) (Roberts 14, Dumbleton 18 and 14 not out). The Permanent men replied with 104 (D. Williams 38, O'Brien 17, Reeves 10). Bowling for the Casuals, Matthews took four wickets for 42 runs, Venn two for 21, and Wilkina three for 15. For tho Permanent men, O'Brien took six wickets for 15 runs, Williams three for 20; Wright, Beven for 22, and Hollis four for 6.
