PUBLISHING FALSE WAR REPORTS
PUBLICAN FINED 40a. (Hcc. April 2, 4.30 p.m.) Melbourne, April 1. The first prosecutions under the War Precautions Act havo been recorded. A publican was fined <Jos. for posting a false report in front of his hotel to the effect that the steamer Runic had been torpedoed in the English Channel with Australian troops on board. Others were fined 20s. for spreading the report.
